Over the weekend, I sat down with Jesse James Carver and we ended up somewhere I didn't expect.
Jesse was a performing magician. He had an act with his father, they performed 30+ weekends a year, but by age 15 he quit. What followed was a decade of chronic back pain and a slow unraveling of what he'd been carrying since he walked away from the stage.
In this podcast we discuss:
John Sarno and how repressed rage can manifest as chronic pain
The tension between authenticity and attachment — how every kid sacrifices one for the other and how most adults never learn to reverse it.
The relationship between mental health, chronic pain, and creative expression
How Jesse’s worldview was born from Zen philosophy, woodcarving, and Carl Jung
Jesse is also the person behind the Future Proof Creator Summit happening in Vancouver, June 5-7.
I’m super excited about this event.
The whole thing is built around depth of connection, and the evolving landscape of work, health, and community. The speaker lineup includes Dan Koe, Dan Goldfield, Taylin Simmonds, Kimia Nora, Olivia Piers, David Morin, me, and many more.
What I love about this event is that Jesse built it the same way he builds everything — with courage. He just started reaching out to the people he admired and every single one of them said yes. That’s the power of authenticity.
Early bird pricing runs through April 1st, I hope to see you there (use code TRANSFORM for 15% off tickets).
